The Nilgiris: Eight new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Nilgiris over the last couple of days and the District Collector has warned people against travelling unnecessarily for unimportant reasons.
The Nilgiris has registered eight new cases of COVID-19 since June 15. Five people from the Kulicholai area near Ooty, one person from the Vannarapettai in Coonoor, one person from the Thaimalai area and one person from the Thummanatti area have tested positive for COVID-19.
Informing this the District Collector Innocent Divya said, "The government had announced that travel within zones has been permitted. However, people mistook this announcement and have started travelling for non- essential reasons. This permission has been given only for people to travel for necessary reasons and not for trivial reasons."
She further said, "The co-operation of the people is primary in keeping the spread of the disease under control in Nilgiris. Functions and visiting relatives must be avoided in the present situation. The public must refrain from undertaking such travels. If people conducting functions and people attending them are identified criminal proceedings will be taken on them", she warned.
