CITU petition collector to provide sanitary worker with better facilities

The members of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) recently filed a petition with the district collector. They petitioned the collector to provide sanitary worker with better facilities.

In the petition, it was stated that Coimbatore has 100 wards with many local bodies. In the wards over 10,000 men and women have been employed by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) under the divisions of drinking water supply, school sanitation, drivers and cleaners. They include people who have been working from three years to 20-years. The members of the CITU petitioned the collector stating that basic demands of these employees should be fulfilled so that their quality of life will improve.

When speaking to the press CITU general secretary said “Sanitary workers should be made permanent employees of the CCMC. They should also be provided housing. Depending on the number of vacancies, the CCMC employees must be assigned posts on a priority basis”. he said.
