Coimbatore: A team of experts from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is likely to visit Coimbatore next week to discuss the possibilities of implementing the Metro Project in the city.
Systra Group, a private consulting and engineering company had recently completed the feasibility study of implementing Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) in Coimbatore, which was later submitted to the CMRL.
The feasibility study proposed four corridors for the metro project in Coimbatore with a total distance of 136 km.
According to official sources from Corporation, apart from Metro project other options with CMRL such as Monorail, Suspension Rail, Tram and an exclusive pathway for buses will be discussed
Earlier, the City Corporation had sent a communication urging the experts from CMRL to visit the city to convene a review meeting in this regard.
Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar said the project would be implemented also keeping in consideration the population and infrastructure growth for the next 40 to 50 years.
“Various factors should be considered before implementing the Metro project. The density of bus traffic and other parameters would be thoroughly analysed before implementation of the Metro rail project. The team from CMRL which is expected next week will convene meetings with the District Administration and CCMC", he noted.
