The Nilgiris: The century-old Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) service between Mettupalayam and Coonoor resumed today after a week.
Frequent landslides and boulders forced the NMR to halt its service for over seven times in November. And, the heavy rains last week yet hampered NMR services for over a week.
Especially, the stretch between Hillgrove and Adderly sustained severe damages after boulders and trees uprooted at over 23 places. As the damage was beyond repair, new railway tracks had to be laid in the stretch, said the officials.
Subsequently, the NMR services from Mettupalayam to Coonoor resumed after a week today. At 7.15 am, the mountain rail train with more than 200 tourists departed from Mettupalayam to Coonoor.
