Owing to reasons like new delimitation, and reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the Apex Court. Hearing their plea, the Apex Court on Friday, ordered polls for all districts barring nine newly-formed ones - Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Thirupathur, Ranipet, Villupuram, Kallakuruchi, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi.
The 'nil' turnout for filing nomination at Tirupur Panchayat Office, today was attributed to the confusion prevailing in the conduct of the elections irrespective of the Court ruling which confirmed the elections for the 27 districts including Tirupur.
In the first phase, rural local elections at Tirupur district including Tiruppur, Uthukkuli, Kangeyam, Palladam, Vellakoil, Moolanur and Dharapuram on December 27 and in the second phase the local elections will be held on December 30 at Avinashi, Pongalur, Kundadam, Kadimangalam, Udumalai and Madathukulam.
17 District Panchayat Ward Members, 170 Panchayat Union Ward Members, 265 Panchayat Chairmen and 2295 Grama Panchayat Ward members will be elected.
A total of 9,95,765 voters in Tirupur district, 4,91,651 male voters, 5,04,050 female voters and 64 other voters, are expected to vote in the local body elections in Tirupur district.
