Reacting to the issue, Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar said that an enquiry has been initiated by office to find out what has really happened.
Claiming that the Corporation has denied permission to private organisations to conduct such sessions, he added that no permission was given to any organisation to influence the children to give up meat eating or the consumption of milk. The officials have also identified some Corporation Schools that have allowed the organisation to conduct sessions during school hours.
On the other hand, Chief Education Officer of Coimbatore, P. Ayyanan, told the Simplicity that he has instructed the schools through a mail to not allow such private sessions in schools without getting prior permission.
“Actions would be taken against the school heads, if they are found guilty,” he said.
Meanwhile, members of HAS who are involved in such campaign had been posting for more than three months about the sessions they had taken in schools including slides on Veganism that promotes stopping the usage of animal products including meat and milk.
In one of the comments to a post by him, V. Aravindan, a volunteer from HAS who takes such classes had sarcastically mentioned that some of the parents were complaining that their children were not drinking milk because of him.
The members have been campaigning vehemently at Corporation, Government and Private schools in Coimbatore and have been taking feedback notes from children, wherein the children have confessed to not eat meat anymore.
Notably, the State Government offers eggs to children in their noon meal scheme in the very schools where campaigns to stop eating egg had taken place.
Reacting to the issue, District Collector K. Rajamani said that he would look into it and take necessary actions.
