Tirupur: In an unusual incident, two elderly women in Tirupur have claimed that they were unaware of demonetisation and expressed great shock after knowing that their hard earned savings has no value anymore.
Rangammal and her sister from Tirupur Bomalur area had given Rs.46,000 to their sons for their treatment. The sons who saw old 500s and 1000 rupee notes were shell shocked and informed them of the demonetisation.
A devastated Rangammal and her sister claimed that they had no idea what demonetisation was all about and had sought the help of the government to change the RS. 46,000 to new notes.
Hearing the piteous state of the elderly women, District Collector of Tirupur, K. Vijayakarthikeyan stepped forward to help them. He made necessary arrangements for the women to undergo treatment for their ailment at the government hospital in Tirupur.
He also made them understand that it is not possible to exchange their old currency notes to new ones.
