The Nilgiris: The tea estate workers at Manjoor had to run hither and thither to save themselves from the herd of Gaur that strayed into a private tea estate on Thursday.
Frightened by the sight of the herd, the tea plantation workers near Manjoor Government Hospital in the Nilgiris, dropped their tea leaf collection bags and ran from the spot. They boycotted the work and demanded to chase the Gaurs into dense forests.
"The nature of these animals cannot be predicted at all. Thought they might look calm and just grazing, they might turn violent anytime", said a tea estate worker.
She also cited the recent death of two people in the district due to Gaur attack.
The farmers and estate workers have jointly requested the forest department officials to chase the herd into dense forests as they have been damaging vegetable crops and intruding in their daily work.
