Kavitha from Veerapandi of Mettupalayam runs a cloth shop in the same area. Kavitha had befriended Lakshmi, who frequents her shop.
In this scenario, Lakshmi visited Kavitha's shop recently and told her of the gold bars she has in her possession.
She informed Kavita that she got those gold bars while carrrying out a excavation work. Lakshmi has also requested her to buy those bars for cash as she fears her alcoholic husband would sell them for liquor. To gain Kavitha's confidence, Lakshmi had given a small gold bar to her.
After confirming that it was real gold, Kavita brought a half kg gold bar from Kavita for Rs. 2 lakh. However, after two days, when Kavitha checked on the gold bar she was shell-shocked to learn that the bar had no gold in it.
Shocked by the fake gold, Kavitha tried to contact Lakshmi but was not able to get her over phone. Meanwhile, Kavitha came to know that Lakshmi had been in touch with another man for selling fake gold bars. She immediately rushed to his address and caught her red-handed and informed the police.
Upon investigation, the police arrested Lakshmi and found that she has cheated several women in the same manner. The Periyanaickenpalayam police are further investigating the case.
