Upon orders of Police Superintendent Sujit Kumar and under the guidance of Assistant SP Balamurugan, a special police team was formed under Inspector Shanmugam to investigate the theft.
On November 19, Daniel from Karumathampatti registered a complaint stating that his cell phone was snatched by three persons in a bike near Venu Mess, while he was walking and speaking over phone..
Following this, on the same day Deivathal of the same area complained to the police that three people in a bike entered her home and grabbed her old jewellery at knife point.
The police who were geared up to babe the accused had planned to intensify night patrol and vehicle checks. Meanwhile, on Saturday, Sub-Inspector Aravindarajan, Constable Mahendran and Yuvaraj were involved in a vehicle inspection near Kaniyur toll gate. As they fell suspicious on a two-wheeler, they stopped it and investigated the trio who were travelling in it.
Upon investigation, the police confirmed that the gang was involved in burglary and theft in and around Karumathampatti. The accused were identified as Sivakumar (21) from Sulur, Manikandan (20) from Karayampalayam and Pravin (21) from Kinnathukadavu.
The trio were produced in Sulur Court and remanded at Coimbatore central prison. The gold chain and the cell phone was seized and handed over to the owners.
