Tirupur: Public on the Avinashi road were surprised to see a huge Peepal tree from Tirupur translocated here, to its new home.
The timely efforts of environment-based NGOs Vanathukul Tirupur, Marangalin Maruvazhu and Osai had to plan meticulously to relocate the 75-year-old Peepal tree which had to be uprooted from Tirupur Corporation office due to smart city works.
"When we knew about the tree, we immediately decided to safely uproot and translocate it another location. However, the generous proposal to take care of the expenses by a private construction company in Coimbatore motivated us to proceed with the work. After obtaining necessary permission from Corporation and revenue department, we decided to start the process on Sunday", said Osai Syed.
When questioned on why so much risk and expenses had to be invited to translocate it to Coimbatore, Syed of NGO Osai clarified that "The private company who sponsored to translocate the tree had requested to plant the tree at one of their ongoing construction site at Kalapatti here."
He also added that the translocation also has helped us garner the attention of the public who in awe witnessed the tree travelling in the National highways from Tirupur to Coimbatore.
"People who witnessed the process would have understood that it's more than a tree that we are trying to save", he said.
