Coimbatore: Encouraging people to adapt to live a life more in sync with nature, a session on cleaning our houses with natural cleansers was held at Siruthuli office on November 23, Saturday.
The seminar cum hands-on-training was provided by Sangeetha Subash who is a member of Siruthuli. The session proved to be largely beneficial, as the participants were taught to make natural cleansers at home using simple ingredients like orange, ash, lemon peels and others.
Addressing the participants, Sangeetha Subash in her lecture said "All the foam generated from cleaning products contaminates our water bodies to a great extent. When we see such contaminated water bodies we confortably blame the government for not maintaining them in pristine condition."
"If we think deeply, aren't we responsible for such contaminations? Haven't we contributed to the degradation?", questioned Sangeetha who explained to the audience on how natural cleansers can be an alternate to chemical cleansers.
"A majority of people use chemical cleansers for convenience and to save time. The volume of foam generated through the cleansers from dish wash, laundry, hairwash and other cleaning agents gets more concentrated in the ocean during summer due to evaporation of water", she explained.
She also cited the protest they held in Coimbatore requesting not to open the check dams, since the toxicity of water was very high. The toxicity could gravely affect the farmlands, she opined.
Explaining further on the ill-effects of chemical cleansers, she said "They are around 52 harmful chemicals in the cleansers, we use on a daily basis. Especially when we use hand sanitizers, we also kill our gut bacterias. Swatch treatment is becoming more challenging because the chemical products kill all the microbes."
"Contrary to this, usage of natural cleaners brings in more positivity into our homes, as we create many good microbes. However, unlike instant chemical products, we need to give the natural cleansers sometime to act on the dirt and remove them. Without compromising quality, we can get maximum results out of natural cleansers which we can prepare at our homes", she detailed.
Sangeetha subhash also gave hands on training to the participants about the procedure and preparation of bio enzyme, homemade dish wash powder, handwash powder and multi-use cleaner.
