Owing to flash floods and incessant monsoon rains, the check dam near New Vegetable wholesale market on MTP - Annur road has been overflowing since past week.
On Saturday, the passers-by noticed a boy drowning in the water and alerted the fire and rescue department. The fire fighters who rushed to the spot retrieved the deceased boy and sent the body for post mortem to MTP Government Hospital.
Since the whereabouts of the boy is yet to be found, the body is kept at MTP GH. However, initial investigation suggest that the boy could have slipped into the gushing waters while fishing.
The Sirumugai Police are investigating the case.
