Umadevi and Venkatesan are residents of Meenakshi Nagar, next to Mangalam in Tirupur district. The couple were working in a hoisery unit in Mangalam road. Of late, Venkatesan got addicted to alcohol after he sustained injuries to his leg and was unable to go to work.
It is reported that he repeatedly troubled Umadevi for money to buy liquor. On November 17, Venkatesan reportedly stole the mixie from his home and sold it to buy liquor.
Irked by his action, Umadevi in a fit of rage struck him with a wooden log.
Subsequently, she admitted Venkatesan to Palladam Government Hospital and later shifted to Coimbatore Government Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
Initially, Umadevi told the police that Venkatesan met with an accident and was admitted to Palladam GH for treatment.
After handing over his body, the police were left in shock as the autopsy revealed no signs of accident but confirmed that Venkatesan had taken a big blow to his head.
Later, when the police inquired to Umadevi she confessed about lying to their relatives and the police and she agreed of hitting him with a wooden log.
The police filed murder charges against Umadevi and arrested her. The couple have a son Nivedhan who presently is in the custody of their relatives.
