Coimbatore: People have been thronging the cattle farm of Vijayan of Devayampalayam village near Periyanayakanpalayam, here after one of his sheep delivered to a six-legged lamb.
Vijayan who runs cattle farm for the past 30 years in the area has more than 100 sheeps and goats. In an unusual circumstance, a pregnant sheep in one of the sheepfolds delivered a lamb with six legs.
"While, lamb with five legs is regarded to be rare, this one with six legs is 'very very' rare. However, this is the first time a lamb with six legs has been born and the villagers of the region have been visiting this new born 'miraclous' lamb", say cattle rearers in the area.
Veterinary doctors have however explained this as a hormonal imbalance. "Just like human beings, animals too have hormone deficiency and at times it leads to the growth of extra heads and legs. However, the extra limbs might not grow to be fully usable", clarified the doctors.
