Coimbatore: An argument broke out between DMK MLA N Karthik and the police when he was denied entry at a Government welfare event being held in the city.
A welfare distribution program on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu was held to today in Varadarajapuram, which is part of the Singanallur assembly constituency.
The Minister for Municipal Administration and RDI, S P Velumani was to take part in the function to distribute welfare schemes to beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the MLA of Singanallur constituency, N Karthik arrived for the event though he had deliberately not been invited.
The police officers denied entry to Karthik citing that he was not to be allowed inside. He then questioned them on why the Government officials had not invited him, though S P Velumani had been invited for the function that was held in his constituency.
Subsequently, the DMK MLA N Karthik questioned the police that if the event was an AIADMK party function, then why should Government welfare programs be given at the event. After the police had convinced him, Karthik left the venue with his party cadres.
