Coimbatore: Ahead of local body elections, the DMK party in Valparai held a camp to collect applications from those interested to contest. Hundreds thronged the trade union office in Valparai to receive applications for various posts in Panchayat and Municipality.
DMK District Secretary (South) Coimbatore, Thendral Selvaraj led the camp. Candidates willing to contest for the position of Panchayat President in 21 wards of Valparai Municipality submitted their application.
The amount for the position of ward membership was fixed at Rs 5,000, Rs. 2,500 for general category and ST/SC/women respectively. And, Rs. 25,000 for the position of Municipal Chairman and Rs 12,500/- for general category and SC/ST/women respectively.
A large number of people have submitted their applications to contest in the local body elections.
Deputy Secretary of DMK, Irugur Chandran, Pollachi Kabilan, Valaparai Town Secretary Palpandi, Trade Union President Soundara Pandian were also present.
