The Nilgiris: Motorists travelling to Ooty and Coonoor are advised to travel with caution as multiple landslides have been reported at 11 places on the Coonoor-MTP NH.
The road from MTP-Coonoor has been temporarily closed for repair works and all vehicles to Ooty and Coonoor from MTP are re-routed through MTP-Kotagiri road.
Heavy downpours overnight has uprooted several trees and caused multiple massive landslides at 11 places on Coonoor-MTP National Highways. And, 19 vehicles were washed away due to flooding of Coonoor river in Parasu Ram street near Krishnapuram. Several houses and shops in the area were inundated in flood waters.
While the repair works have been geared up on war footing, further rains could delay the works, officials say. Under the supervision of NH officials - AD Paarijatham, DE Kuzhandhai Velu and AE Sadiq Basha, 5 JCPs, 1 Hitachi, 1 Compressor and 5 Tipper lorries are being deployed to set right the roads.
No casualties have been reported, so far.
