Coimbatore: In a lucky escape, a herd of five elephants that was being guided back into the forest by foresters were left unhurt after brushing off a transformer near Periyanaickenpalayam here today.
The elephants that ventured out of the reserve last night had been giving a tough time to foresters since they could not be guided back to forest even after three hours, since 5 am today.
They had reportedly entered a plantain farm and took shelter until foresters chased them by bursting crackers. The elephants then moved into an open ground where they walked past a high power transformer.

When one of the elephants brushed against the transformer while running, the transformer burst and fire sparkles were seen. Luckily, the herd escaped without any injuries and were continued to be chased by foresters.

Notably, a herd of six elephants were spotted in CCTV footage chasing dogs at Lakshmi Nagar in Kathirnaickenpalayam near Thudiyalur, a few days ago.
