Coimbatore: In a tragic accident, two school students were killed on the spot after their two wheeler collided head on with a lorry near Puthupalam here on Saturday morning.
Coimbatore: In a tragic accident, two school students were killed on the spot after their two wheeler collided head on with a lorry near Puthupalam here on Saturday morning.
Venkatesan from Thayir Iteri area here, was taking his daughters Gayathri (9) and Keerthana (7) in a two-wheeler. At around 8:30 this morning, when Ventasesan's was attempting to cross the road near Puthupalam in Rathinapuri, his two wheeler collided head on with a tipper lorry. Both his children were thrown out off the vehicle and died on the spot.
Venkatesan who sustained severe injuries was rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Subsequently, the traffic investigation police reached the spot and investigated the accident.
The bodies of the school girls were then taken to the Government Hospital for an autopsy. Police have arrested Ganesan, the lorry driver.
Entry of heavy vehicles through city roads between 8 am to 11 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm is banned, heavy vehicles continue to ply through the city roads causing tragic accidents. It may be recalled that even on June 28, a school girl near Singanallur bridge met with an accident with a heavy vehicle and suffered grievous injuries to her extremities.
