The Nilgiris: The residents of TAN tea estate in Coonoor are stuck in panic following a rockslide that happened at 8:30 am on Saturday. No injuries reported.
Describing their ordeal, the residents said that due to continuous rains, the soil has loosened in most of the terrains, especially at tea estates. The rocks which were intact to the surface have also loosened up due to soil erosion.
“Today morning, multiple rocks of various sizes fell off the cliff and rolled towards our houses, however they got they stuck in between the trees and huge shrubs which stopped them further rolling downwards. As the rocks could roll back anytime, the officials should act quickly to remove the rocks”, the residents appealed.
Another resident noted that if the rocks would have rolled another 10 feet, their houses would have collapsed and at least 10 people were there in the houses at that time, he said.
