Tirupur : Following Telangana, Tirupur joins the bandwagon of announcing novel initiatives to shun plastic items. While government organisations and NGOs are striving hard to address the uprising plastic waste issue in the country, a few organisations and district administrations including Assam, Chattishgarh and Mulu district in Telangana have garnered the attention of the masses by announcing attractive schemes.

"Give one kg plastic and write off school fees", "One kg plastic and get one meal free", and also "One kg plastic for one kg rice", are some of the striking schemes that have received astounding response from the public.

Following their footsteps, the Tirupur District Collector K. Vijayakarthikeyan has announced yet another attractive scheme targeting school children by promising free notebooks for one kg of plastic wastes. Inaugurating a plastic recycling scheme today at Tirupur Jaivabhai Government School, the Collector distributed stationery items and notebooks in exchange of used plastics.

The students joyfully collected the freebies in exchange of the plastic wastes collected from their homes.

He also added that the student who brings the highest quantity of plastics will be awarded with an electric bicycle.

"As anticipated, the district administration has received an overwhelming response from the students. Hence, plans to extend the scheme to 1374 Government schools and 600 private schools across the district of Tirupur is underway", stated the Collector.
