Coimbatore: The excess water from the Pllur Dam in Mettupalayam was released into the Bhavani river that flows to the Bhavanisagar Dam. Moreover, the main source of water of the Bhavani Sagar, Mayaru is also overflowing with water which has caused flooding in the region.

The water has reportedly surrounded the villages of Kandhavayal, Allur and Uliyur. The Lyngapuram and the Kandhavayal bridges submerged in the water cutting off transportation. The farmers are worried since over 30,000 banana trees that were planted in the Bhavani Sagar water reservoir have also submerged.
Various species of banana, including Nendran and Kadili which were cultivated in Vachinampalayam, Lingapuram, Thimmarampalayam, Pazhathottam submerged leaving farmers worried since they had spent about Rs.120 for each banana tree and this destruction of crop has occurred just before harvest.
Since Bhavani Sagar has reached its maximum capacity twice this year, it is expected to take months for nearby areas that are flooded to be restored to normalcy. This has forced villagers to hitch dangerous coracle rides to move to other safer places. The Kandhavayal villagers have urged the Government to construct the submerged bridges at a higher level to avoid calamities of crop and people.
