Coimbatore: Continuing their indefinite strike for the second consecutive day, the Electricity Board's contractual labourers association have demanded the TNEB to raise their minimum wage to Rs. 380 for contract labourers, sought preference for contract labourers in the appointment of gangmen and granting helper jobs to labourers who joined the department before 1998.
Coimbatore: Continuing their indefinite strike for the second consecutive day, the Electricity Board's contractual labourers association have demanded the TNEB to raise their minimum wage to Rs. 380 for contract labourers, sought preference for contract labourers in the appointment of gangmen and granting helper jobs to labourers who joined the department before 1998.
Speaking on this, Nagaraj, State Deputy Secretary of Electricity board contract labourers association said that, "Since 1998, 2000 contract labourers are working in Coimbatore Zone. At the time of cyclones and other natural disasters about 8000 contract labourers are deployed to set right deranged electric poles and wires. However, the authorities are not concerned on giving them permanent jobs, moreover even during appointment of gangmen contract labourers are not given first priority."
He added that "We have made several representations to putforth our demands to the higher officials in the electricity board including the Chairman and also to the State Minister. Till date, no action has been taken. Hence, we have decided to continue our strike till our demands are met."
As part of our protest, we will be sending petitions to all the concerned people highlighting our demands, added Nagaraj, State Deputy Secretary of Electricity board contract labourers association.
