Tirupur : Tirupur District Collector, K. Vijayakarthikeyan on Friday stated that a total of 3487 private borewells and 2842 government borewells have been identified and closed in the district of Tirupur.
Tirupur : Tirupur District Collector, K. Vijayakarthikeyan on Friday stated that a total of 3487 private borewells and 2842 government borewells have been identified and closed in the district of Tirupur.
The action comes after a two-year boy Sujith near Trichy slipped into a abandoned borewell and lost his life. Following the tragedy, the Tamil Nadu government had ordered all district collectors and Corporation Commissioners to ensure proper closure of all unused and abandoned borewells in their respective district.
Acting swiftly upon the orders, District Collector, K. Vijayakarthikeyan dire the the officials to identify abandoned and open borewells in the districts especially in farmlands and government institutions and close them using concrete slabs.
The Collector also appealed to the public to use the number 97000 41114 to report any abandoned or open borewells in their neighbourhood.
