In a bid to remove water hyacinth, silt and weeds from lakes, the Coimbatore Corporation plans to buy an amphibian machine.

As far as cleaning lakes are concerned, the water hyacinth has been a major sore since the weed spring up fast and spreads quickly across a major portion of a lake. The civic body in the city spends a considerable amount of money every year to clean lakes which also involves several man hours. To remove the weeds and silt, the CCMC has now gained approval to buy an amphibian equipment which can be used both in water to remove weeds and on the ground to remove silt from the sides of the lakes.

Sources in the city Corporation say that a tender shall soon be floated to buy the equipment at a cost of Rs. 7.8 crores. The amphibian machine called the 'Water Master' is said to be useful to clean lakes more effectively than the machines being presently used. The multi-purpose dredger has been purchased already by the Tamil Nadu Government and is being used in Chennai. Now, under the smart city funds, the CCMC has gained approval to purchase the amphibian machine.
