Accordingly, field surveys are being carried out on war footing by the officials of the Revenue Department which is been monitored by the Revenue Divisional Officers and Thasildhars.
In a press release, the District Collector reitrated that unused borewells dug by government departments and by private entities in the Coimbatore district should be covered with cement slab.
The Corporation and Municipality Commissioner, Panchayat Administration officer, Urban and Rural Welfare officers are all ordered to monitor the closure of the borewells in their respective areas.
The Collector has also urged the public to cooperate in closure of abandoned borewells. The release also warned that appropriate action will be taken on the concerned land owners for acting careless in leaving borewells abandoned.
