The demand for escalators, especially for the elderly and disabled has been a long pending one at the Coimbatore railway station. The escalator set up in Platform 1A is under maintenance currently. Meanwhile, the second phase of the construction of an escalator is underway. The work which was expected to be completed by the end of September has been delayed.

Talking to railway officials, contractors have now promised that the work would be completed by November 15, after which the model is to be previewed and the safety stairs are to be confirmed. Once the approval is gained by the Central Minister and officials, escalator facility will be made available at the Coimbatore railway station, officially.
