Tirupur: A fire that broke out at a scrap godown on Monday evening, quickly spread to a nearby workshop at Alankadu near Nataraja Theater resulting in more than five cars being gutted.

The iron scrap godown owned by Dharmaraj (48) in Alankadu caught fire and as per report from eye witnesses who were residents in the area, they noticed smoke emitting from the godown and informed the Fire and Rescue Department.

Within minutes, the fire had spread to the nearby car repair workshop leaving more than five cars gutted.

Four fire trucks from Tirupur North and South fire stations arrived at the scene to douse the fire. After two hours of struggle, the fire was extinguished. Some people opined that that fireworks were the cause for the fire at the godown. The Tirupur North Police have registered a case and are investigatiing.
