Kerala : Kerala Thunderbolts, the command force of Kerala Police, have gunned down three Maoists in an encounter on Monday in the Attapadi Hills of Palakkad.
Acting upon a tip off warning of Maoist movement in Kerala and planned attacks, the thunderbolts team intensified their patrolling in the Attapadi hills, today when a seven-member group of Maoists opened fire at them.
In the attack, three Maoists including a woman was shot dead, while others have allegedly escaped. The deceased Maoists have been identified as Karthick, Srimathi and Suresh.
Combing operation has been beefed up to nab the missing four Maoists who escaped.
It may be recalled that the Union government in 2018 listed Palakkad district, as most vulnerable to Maoist activities and strengthened intelligence in the area.
Security has been tightened in Coimbatore-Kerala border near Anaikati and in the Nilgiris.
