The Infantry battalion was formed in Srinagar to fight against the Pakistani invaders in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. Infantry Day is observed as a remembrance of the first military event of Independent India, when the Indian Army countered the first attack on Indian soil on October 27, 1947, in the Kashmir valley.
Army soldiers and officers paid tribute to the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir by laying a wreath at the Madras War Memorial. Infantry Chief Lieutenant General, V.K Mohan took part in the 73rd Infantry Day event and paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the battle.
