Tirupur: Based on a tip off, the food and safety officials on Saturday raided a meat shop in Tirupur and seized 225 kg of dead country chicken meat which was illegally kept for sale. Five including four women from the shop were held for interrogation.

The Food Safety Department of Tirupur received information that dead chickens infected with diseases are being sold in Marudhachalapuram area in Tirupur.
Following this, FSD officials led by District Food Safety Officer, Vijaya Lalithambigai raided shops in the suspected area. Upon investigation, it was found out that a meat shop owned by Vijay had kept around 225 kg of dead chicken meat for sale during Deepavali.
To avoid suspicion, they had applied turmeric to the chicken to make it look fresh. The officials booked Vijay, Gayathri, Amutha, Latha and Inbavalli of the shop. Later, the seized chicken was then burnt by the officials.
