Coimbatore: Cadres of Hindu Munnani and BJP jointly staged an agitation in front of the Central Prison here today, after the prison administration denied permission to distribute Deepavali sweets to their party cadres who are undergoing imprisonment for various reasons in the Central Prison here.

There are over 2,000 prisoners in the Coimbatore Central Prison. Every year on the occasion of the Deepavali festival, the Hindu Munnani and BJP cadres distribute sweets to their party members who are imprisoned there under various cases.
However, when the members visited the prison today to distribute sweet they were stopped by the prison administration who denied permission to carry out sweet distribution for their imprisoned party cadres. Verbal war broke out between the prison officials and the cadres, who argued that they had sought permission from the AGDP and that they have been carrying out this every year on the occasion of Deepavali.

Following the issue, more than 50 members of Hindu Munnani and BJP gathered in front of the Central Prison and agitated. Upon information, the Race Course police arrived to the spot and pacified them.
Later, after a brief commotion the prison administration accepted their request and permitted to distribute sweets to the prison inmates belonging to their parties.
Guna, Executive Committee member of Hindu Munnani, Nandakumar, District President of BJP, Dhanapal, Spokesperson of Hindu Munnani offered sweets to the prisoners.
