Coimbatore: It's over 16 hours and Sujith Wilson, the two-year-old child who slipped off into an abandoned borewell at Nadukattupatti near Manapparai in Trichy on Friday has been battling for his life, even as the fire and rescue personnel are working day and night to rescue him alive.

The tragedy happened at around 5.30 p.m on October 25, Friday when B. Sujith Wilson (2) son of Britto Arogiyaraj and Kalaimary was playing near his house and accidentally slipped into the 600 ft borewell. The borewell was dug before 5 years for more than 600 feet and abandoned citing lack of water.
The abandoned borewell which was in front of his house was covered with mud. However, due to the recent rains, the mud has loosened and when the child stepped on it he fell inside the borewell.
Several fire and rescue teams from Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Namakkal, NGOs with indigenous technology in rescue operations have roped in to save the little one who has got struck at 25 feet of the 600 feet borewell and further slipped to 70 feet due to continuously loosening of mud.
National disaster response force and State disaster response force are on their way and expected to arrive any time to gear up the rescue operations.
Adequate amount of oxygen is being supplied to the child and a camera has been monitoring the child's health condition. The team which reached very close to rescuing the child failed, as the child couldn't hold the rope due to excess humidity.
Speaking to the reporters, Tamil Nadu Health Minister, C.Vijayabaskar said that expert teams are working to rescue the child. "Fire and rescue personnel, technical teams and a full-fledged medical team are working roynd-the-clock to rescue the child. Contrary to the narrow diameter of the borewell, the diameter of the machine used to dig the pit is slightly bigger, hence it has become a challenging task to expedite the rescue operations."
The Minister expressed that the 'nil' response from the child since the morning of Saturday has deeply concerned us.
To handle similar disasters, the 'borewell robot' invented by Manikandan of Madurai has been brought to the rescue scene. Manikandan has tweaked the machine slightly to suit the present needs of the rescue team. And, another machine invented by IIT students has also been deployed by the rescue team.
The entire State along with the parents and relatives are waiting for the safe rescue for the child.
