Coimbatore: Residents along the Sungam bypass road located within city limits were irked due to miscreants who had reportedly dumped waste on the road near RG Nagar, here. Debris, tree barks, plastic and domestic waste had been dumped along the side of the road but covered almost half the road.
Coimbatore: Residents along the Sungam bypass road located within city limits were irked due to miscreants who had reportedly dumped waste on the road near RG Nagar, here. Debris, tree barks, plastic and domestic waste had been dumped along the side of the road but covered almost half the road.
“I was here till 10 pm and there was no dumping incident. Walkers who came around 6 am spotted the waste and informed social activists,” said a worker from a shop on the road. People claimed that the dumping could have happened late night.
Before the rails were put on the roadside along the bunds of the Valankulam tank, waste was being regularly dumped. It stopped once the lake was girded with iron rails. But some miscreants have dumped within the rails, covering half the road,” complained a resident.
While officials from the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) assured that the dumped waste would be cleared, they raised concerns about the lack of responsibility from public. "It is the duty of the people to keep their environment clean. Such dumping is punishable by the law and the district administration had already issued warnings against such irresponsible behaviour," opined an official. The dumped waste was later cleared from the road by CCMC workers.
