Coimbatore: Residents of the 82nd Ward, Saamiyar Puthuveethi under the Coimbatore Corporation have petitioned for speed breakers to restrict speeding vehicles on the 10 ft wide road to prevent untoward accidents since children and people in the area use the road frequently.
There are about 150 families living in the Saamiyar Puthuveethi area of the 82nd Ward of Coimbatore Corporation. There are houses located on either side of the road on this street. Vehicles speed on the road during the 7-10 am peak hours and 3-6 pm in the evening, in Ukkadam, Kottai Medu, Vincent Road, GM Nagar, Kottaputhur, Anna Nagar, Karumbukkadu and Bypass areas.

The residents of the area and the children walking on the street are reportedly put at risk owing to such speeding vehicles. "We are having a hard time crossing the street because of the speeding vehicles on the most narrow road in the area. Accidents have occurred several times but motorists argue with us when we request them to go slow. Passenger vehicles use Vincent Road and PK Chetty Road as shortcuts. The Corporation must take action to fix this problem using speed-breakers.

We have filed a petition on this issue to the administration," lamented a resident.
