Coimbatore: Hundreds of distressed victims who have fallen prey to an attractive festive saving scheme petitioned to the City Commissioner on Wednesday seeking action on the person who has been running the scheme and recently absconded.

According to the petition, Mahesh (42), who hails from Puthukkad, Tirupur, has been running a Deepavali savings scheme in the name 'Vanavil' for the past 5 years. Hundreds of people from Coimbatore, Tirupur and adjoining areas have been depositing small funds on a weekly basis. Ahead of Deepavali, depositors can withdraw their savings at attractive interest rates and gift hampers.
However, the depositors were shocked, when Mahesh had not returned their amounts nor he was approachable by them. As all their efforts to locate him had failed, the depositors thronged the City Police Commissioner's office to file a complaint.
The depositors in their petition have requested the Commissioner to help them receive their funds at the earliest.
More than 300 members of the region have been making weekly payments. The public has filed a petition as Mahesh who usually return the cash before Diwali has been postponing payment this year and is undercover with hi phone switched off for the past two days. The public has requested the Police Commissioner to arrest the fraudster and retrieve their money.
