A video of the same has been released by one of the on-lookers. In the video, the irked public are seen arguing with the driver and not allowing him to escape from the scene.
While the public are struggling to drive at more than 40 km/hr in the city roads, the private buses here have aced the technique of racing through city roads effortlessly. Neither they abide any traffic rules nor do they fear any action by traffic cops and RTO officials who according to the public are mute spectators of this reckless driving.
Bypassing the Collector's order to make such reckless drivers kneel before the law, in a recent incident the police have softly dealt a over-speeding incident and released the reckless driver who grievously injured a young man near Singanallur on October 19.
Kannan, 28, from Ramanathapuram, Olympus here was travelling in his two-wheeler near Singanallur VGM hospital on the night of October 19. Meanwhile, two private buses with names 'Kadeshwari', TN 39 BV 1189 enroute from Ukkadam to Kannampalayam, and another bus named 'Rajalakshmi', TN 42E 2622 were competing with each other at electrifying speeds.
Hundreds of motorists and pedestrians have witnessed the heedless driving and have moved sideways to avoid collision. When the speeding buses reached near VGM hospital near Singanallur, the driver of Kadeswari bus banged on Kannan's two wheeler. Kannan who was thrown away from his vehicle sustained severe injuries.
Wasting no time, the on-lookers jumped into action immediately and rescued the injured young man and sent him to a nearby hospital. The enraged public and motorists later captivated the buses and entered into an argument with the bus drivers.
Though the Traffic Police (east wing) filed a complaint and arrested driver Someswaran, he allegedly was released on bail, shortly.
"While a law abiding motorist is battling for his life in the hospital, the reckless driver who caused the accident is out on bail without any hassles. Only when stringent on the spot punishments are leived, these private bus drivers would ever drive with caution. Until then, the poor public have to fall prey such traffic violations", a motorist lamented.
While another pedestrian said, "The traffic cops who are keen on stopping two-wheelers to check vehicle documents and helmet should turn their focus on such law breakers who are the reason for several people's death and permanent disabilities."
