Coimbatore: SRMU and AIRF workers staged a protest at the Coimbatore railway station, burning a Government copy issued by the Railway Ministry to show their dissent of the Central Government's decision to privatise the railway sector.
The Railway Ministry on Friday announced that the Government had decided to privatise 50 railway stations and 150 high speed trains across India. The SRMU and AIRF unions have thus been engaging in a series of agitations demanding the abolition of this Government order.
As part of this, the SRMU and AIRF workers staged a black shirt protest at the Goodshed Road in Coimbatore, demanding that the Government abandon the privatisation of trains and railway stations, and the compulsory pension.
They set fire to the copy of the Central Government's privatisation order and raised slogans denouncing the Central Government. The protesters said that they would engage in a series of protests if the Government did not immediately act on their demand.
