Coimbatore: A signature movement was held on behalf of the Railways protest group at the Coimbatore railway station demanding for resumption of train operations from Coimbatore to Southern districts.

Due to the railway track widening work between Coimbatore and Pollachi, trains operating from Coimbatore to Southern districts have been halted. Despite the work having been completed, train operations have not yet resumed.

Hence, the Railways protest group convened a consultation meeting last week and decided to protest, demanding for resumption of train services from Coimbatore to the Southern districts. It was decided to conduct a signature movement as a first stage of protest which is to be followed by rail picketing as a second stage of protest if the Government does not pay heed to the protest.

Accordingly, a signature movement was held at the Coimbatore railway station demanding that train operations from Coimbatore to the Southern districts be resumed. MP P R Natarajan, MLA Karthik, Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhagam General Secretary Ramakrishnan and others signed the petition. Signatures were also obtained from passengers at the railway station.
