Recently, drugs like ganja have been smuggled from Andhra Pradesh and sold in Tamil Nadu, targeting school and college students. These cannabis smugglers are known for being street-smart and most often escape from the vigilant police.
Three men, Karuppusamy, Arun and Ashok have been known to smuggle ganja from the Padagiri mountain area and sell across other states. Meanwhile, the Coimbatore Narcotics Control Division received a tip-off that ganja was being smuggled in an ambulance from Udumalaipet and brought to Coimbatore for sale. Subsequently, a police team scoured vehicles and stopped an ambulance driven by Arun Kumar, who is the son of Manoharan from Sangili Nadar Street, Udumalaipet. After inspecting the ambulance TN 72 R 1976, 250 kg of ganja was seized from it. On further investigating Arun Kumar, the police also confiscated 250 kg of ganja from Karuppusamy's house and found that the ganja was being smuggled in from Andhra Pradesh.
The police have launched a man hunt for Karuppusamy who escaped and has since been absconding. The misuse of an ambulance that is used to save lives of people to smuggle ganja that endangers lives of people has shocked the public.
