Coimbatore: Upon the complaint by a 60-year-old man, the railway police have arrested a man for cheating several lakhs by promising job in Indian Railways.
The man has been identified as Jeganathan and has claimed to be working in ESM Gr-1 in the Southern Railways and has close connections with higher officials Jeganathan from Podanur has cheated around Rs. 18 lakhs from Rajendran (60) and ten others here in the pretext of securing him a job in the railways.
Since 2015, Jeganathan has promised Rajendran from Ondipudur and ten others including Rajendran's daughters of securing them clerical jobs in the railways and had collected several lakhs of money in his wife's account. As he did not keep up his promise, on October 20, 2019, Rajendran filed a complaint at the railway police with details of the incident.
Upon orders from C. Sylendra Babu, Director General of Police of the Railways, Tamil Nadu ordered to probe the issue with immediate effect. A special team headed by Vanitha IPS, under the supervision of Chennai SP Maheswaran and DSP Annadurao was formed. The team arrested Jeganathan in front of the Coimbatore Government hospital and produced him the Criminal Court -6 on October 20 and lodged him in the prison.
DGP, Sylendra Babu lauded the efforts of the police officers who were involved in the case.
