Coimbatore: In a rather long petition, Singanallur constituency MLA N. Karthik of DMK today presented a petition with 120 demands to the CCMC Commissioner and Special Officer, J. Sravan Kumar here on Tuesday.
Among the demands were civic issues, better stormwater drainage, sanitation issues and delay in drinking water supply.

Briefing the media in his petition, the MLA recalled the past petitions he had filed to CCMC highlighting the plight of the wards which lack basic facilities. The MLA also alleged that the CCMC had turned deaf ear to all his previous petitions.
"The city is gripped by sanitation issues which predominantly arise due to poor stormwater drainage facilities. Most of the drainages are clogged, as they are cleared on a timely manner", he noted.
He also pointed the recent rains and the flooding in Noyyal river which inundated residential areas. "The river has its own pathway to flow through, however when it's pathways are encroached or dumped with wastes, the river takes a different route and enters farmlands and residential areas. It is the responsibility of the Corporation to desilt the pathways of water channels ahead of the monsoons. Lack of preparedness and attending to issues on time is the cause of water inundation", MLA Karthik alleged.
The MLA slammed that the undue delay in conducting local body election as the predominant reason for piling up of civic issues in the city.
Accepting his petition, Corporation Commissioner assured to take steps to address the issues at the earliest.
