Coimbatore: Several SDPI activists courted arrested on Tuesday after they laid siege to the District Collectorate demanding the release of Abdul Hameed alias Bilal Hajiyar, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Hindu Munnani leader in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Several SDPI activists courted arrested on Tuesday after they laid siege to the District Collectorate demanding the release of Abdul Hameed alias Bilal Hajiyar, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Hindu Munnani leader in Coimbatore.
Abdul Hameed alias Bilal Hajiyar was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Hindu Munnani leader Veera Siva in Coimbatore. The 86-year-old prisoner is now admitted to a private hospital for ailment.
The 86-year-old-man, who was out on bail was lodged at the central prison in October 2018 after the Supreme Court upheld the Madras high court’s verdict sentencing him to life imprisonment.
Citing his age and ailments, the SDPI party cadres urged to release him from prison.
The cadres lay motionless on the ground to show their disapproval of lodging an ailing aged person in prison.
The protestors alleged that the district administration has been refusing to take action on the High Court orders and initiate steps to release Bilal Hajiyar at the earliest.
Following the demonstration, security was beefed up in front of the District Collectorate.
