Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Service conducted a fire mock drill and safety program in association with Arima Constructions at Arima Cyprus Oaks' 10-storied residential apartment in Pulliakulam on October 18.
Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Service conducted a fire mock drill and safety program in association with Arima Constructions at Arima Cyprus Oaks' 10-storied residential apartment in Pulliakulam on October 18.
The pre-Diwali festive fire drill was launched and conducted by the Position Office and Crew of the Tamil Nadu Divisional Office of the Fire and Rescue Service in Coimbatore.
The programme was organized to impart awareness and training for residents in the city to deal with fire contingencies. The demonstration featured fire extinguished operations techniques, fire and rescue methods, fire hydrant operating methods, elevator fire and rescue technology and fire sprinkler operating methods. Apart from this, the residents were elaborated on the much-needed techniques on fire evacuation, fire awareness, tips and techniques and safety awareness during fire incidents.
Launching the fire safety drill, Muthukumarasamy, Station Officer stated that one of the best ways to learn about safety during fire accidents is to see it with one's own eyes. The residents were thus given hands-on experience about the dangers of fire. "Many of us have fire extinguishers at home and residential areas without properly knowing how to use them. This fire safety and awareness program will provide excellent experience and information in tackling fire incidents. It is always best to call the fire department in case of an emergency," he added.
"Until 2001, it was only the Fire Department that was called to douse fires. Since 2001, the Fire Service and Rescue Service began working together and is now under the direct control of the Chief Minister. Call us immediately when you require our services and we assure you that they we will reach the spot on time," added Muthukumarasamy.
"In the event of a fire in countries like Japan, the Japanese immediately leave their homes. Upon hearing the sound of the siren, they leave their belongings as such and leave the place. One should not stay back to try to take expensive items like cell phones, jewellery and property papers from homes that are on fire. We need to teach our children that in case of fire accidents, things can catch fire and hence they should run away quickly," he reiterated.
Speaking on the occasion, S R Aravind Kumar, Managing Director, Arima Constructions said, "Ensuring building safety standards, we are providing various fire safety equipment at our projects emphasizing safety as a priority. Now we insist our residents get to know fire safety awareness, and also to learn and use fire prevention equipment, fire hoses and fire alarms provided by us."
At the mock drill, children were taught to stay alert during fire situations and were also given fire safety awareness tips. The residents were invited to watch live fire demonstrations and participate in activities. The mock drill was very closely monitored to ensure the safety of all participants.
