Scientific and industrial Testing and Research Centre ( Si'Tarc) at Coimbatore has been offering research and testing facilities for Coimbatore industries, particularly the pump manufacturers, since 1987. The facility was a joint initiative by SIEMA and CODISSIA which till date is one of the best in the country.

Si'Tarc conducted a customer meet on Monday to interact with customers and industries to get a feedback on the facilities expected from Si'Tarc which would help the pump industry, particularly the MSMEs .
Interacting with the media after the customer meet, Arun Ranganathan, President, Si'Tarc elaborated on the facilities offered. "Si'Tarc caters to the needs of around 500 pump and motor industries and engineering industries, MSMEs in particular . MSMEs can avail these facilities in testing and calibration fields. This would help industries to improve the quality of their products which would help industries from this region to have a better advantage over products from other parts of the country. Si'Tarc has testing facilities to test more than 100 products covered under major categories like electrical motors, pumpsets, solar photovoltaic products, environmental testing of engineering products and so on. All these tests are carried out at very nominal costs," stated Arun Ranganathan.
Si'Tarc has developed a smart pumpset technology in association with PSG institutions, IISC and few other organisations, termed the BLDC technology, which was developed for import of substitute products. BLDC technology is the first of its kind in the country which once transferred to industries can lead to development of pumpsets with greater energy efficiency. The technology has been developed and tested after a period of two years of research.
"Si'Tarc also has facilities for analysis of chemical properties of various products including steel. Even water quality and food products can be tested in the laboratory here. All testing facilities are available at a very nominal cost to enable customers to avail these facilities. Si'Tarc is a non-profit organisation which focuses on testing, training people in testing technologies and research. Our aim is to help MSMEs to come out with better products of best quality standards. Si'Tarc is a part of BIS and BEE ( Bureau of Energy Efficiency) and the certificates issued at Si'Tarc after testing has national and international recognition," detailed Arun Ranganathan.
The CODISSIA President, R Ramamurthy, office bearers of SIEMA and members of Industrial Associations and MSMEs participated in the meeting.
