Coimbatore: Heavy downpours in Mettupalayam has reportedly washed away the bridge and drinking water pipes, affecting residents in the area to a great extent.
Coimbatore: Heavy downpours in Mettupalayam has reportedly washed away the bridge and drinking water pipes, affecting residents in the area to a great extent.
Since the onset of the northeast Monsoon rains in Mettupalayam and Coimbatore, ponds and lakes in the suburbs are overflowing with water.
Ezhu Erumai Pallam, the main source of water in Mettupalayam was hit by heavy rains, on Monday. Due to the flooding, the bridge in the village of Kurumbapalayam, Bellathi Panchayat was severely damaged by over 20 ft and disconnected into two. Due to this, the residents of the area have been forced to go around 10 km from the village to reach Annur road. Giant pipes carrying the drinking water to Tirupur from Bhavani River in Mettupalayam were also damaged by the intensity of the flood and have reportedly broken into pieces.
As a result, the supply of drinking water in Tirupur and its neighbouring villages has also been restricted. The irate residents have therefore urged the Government to take appropriate measures to rectify the after-effects of the floods.
