Coimbatore: The Southern Railways has announced that the Nilgiris Mountain Railways (NMR) train from Mettupalayam to Ooty stands cancelled for three more days as a precautionary measure as well as to clear the landslides which had disrupted the railway track route.
Meanwhile, heavy downpours have been reported in Kallar and Mettupalayam where the NMR route begins. With the onset of the northeast monsoon, many landslides have occurred along the mountain railway route and hence the NMR train services have been cancelled from October 18 to 20.
The train service that resumed on Monday had again been halted due to the landslide that took place between Kallar and Hillgrove railway stations. Despite the ongoing clearing work, with the monsoon still raging the Southern Railways announced that the NMR service from Mettupalayam to Ooty will be cancelled for three more days owing to landslides that could occur anytime.
Thus, the NMR train services have been cancelled for three days from October 22-24 and the online train ticket booking for the NMR ride has also been suspended for three days.
