Coimbatore: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint with the Coimbatore Commissioner's Office demanding legal action against the owner of the Karappan Silks shop in Annur for defaming the Hindu gods at the Dravidar Iyyakka Tamilar meeting.

The Dravida Iyakka Tamilar held a meeting at Hotel Akshayam, Jupiter Hall near Peelamedu on September 29th. The video of Sirumugai Karappan Silks owner Karappan speaking about Hindu Gods Krishna and the latest sensation Athivarathar was spread on social media.

BJP’s State Secretary, R. Nandakumar, has filed a complaint at the Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner's Office today. The petition said, "Our Hindu deities Krishnan and Athivaradara has been insulted. His speech has mocked Hindus and hurt many minds. His speeches have particularly affected Hindu women in particular. Therefore, we are asking for legal action to be taken against him."

BJP’s National Secretary H Raja tweeted saying that Hindus should boycott his shop and hurt his business. As soon as he tweeted, many pro-hindutva supporters went and gave low review scores in Karappan Silks Facebook page and in the morning it was seen with 1.6 rating out of 5.

Immediately after H Raja’s tweet, support for Karappan flowed in from various quarters. #WeSupportKarappan started to trend in Twitter and Pro-Dravidian supporters started tweeting in support and reviewing Karappan Silks’ Facebook page. As of evening, his page had reached a rating of 4.6/5 and many including Suba Veerapandian had tweeted saying sales had picked up considerably in Karappan Silks and they are also planning to start online sales soon.
