Coimbatore: Karuppusamy, a native of Coimbatore petitioned the District Collector to rescue his child alleging that he had been tricked into parting with his child who was sold without his consent.
Coimbatore: Karuppusamy, a native of Coimbatore petitioned the District Collector to rescue his child alleging that he had been tricked into parting with his child who was sold without his consent.
Karuppusamy spoke to the media at the Collectorate and explained his story saying that he was from Tenkasi but worked in a private company in Coimbatore and was married to Ramya. A baby boy was born to them on May 11 at the Coimbatore Government Hospital. But since Ramya was unable to breastfeed and take care of the baby, he had asked his boss for advice. Karuppusamy said that he was introduced to his employer's driver Senthil alias Karthi, who took his child on June 2 and and called his friend Murugan, and then asked Karuppusamy to sign on a white paper.
Later, when Ramya recovered, Karuppasamy asked the men for his baby but they had blatantly refused and threatened to kill him and his wife Ramya, saying that they had already sold the baby to a couple called Kuppusamy and Shanmugapriya for Rs. 40,000. Karuppusamy's wife Ramya who took ill, died on July 20. Following this, Karuppusamy again asked for his baby as he wanted to raise him on his own. The men involved again refused the request following which he Karuppusamy submitted a petition to the Collector to help him recover his baby.
When Senthil alias Karthi was contacted over the phone, he clarified his side of the story saying that Karuppusamy had taken Rs. 8,000 for the child saying that he was unable to raise the child and had also promised to legally hand over the child for adoption after 15 days. Karthi claimed that Karuppusamy was being instigated by a few people to spread false rumours.
